Affirmations are a popular self-improvement technique whereby a person makes affirmative statements about something which they would like to have happen or that they wish to build up or reinforce. Universal laws are cause and effect relationships for everything in the universe and our minds. Knowing what we know about universal laws, how can we make our affirmation practice the best it can be?
Herbert Harris wrote a truly excellent book called The Twelve Universal Laws of Success and one of the laws he mentions is The Law of Affirmation. Knowing that there is a universal law pertaining specifically to affirmation lets us consider how to best work with this law in light of other universal laws which also are in effect in our existence.
Affirmations seem to work best when they are affirmed in a present positive tense. In other words, they are especially effective if stated in an “I AM ______” manner. You can write down your affirmations and speak them to yourself every morning and or evening. You should make a commitment to regularity in your affirmation practice as that will ensure the best long term results. There are also some exciting smartphone apps available such as ThinkUp where you can record your own affirmations and play them back to yourself with a musical background. This makes it easy to form a habit to listen to the affirmations at a regular set time.
Regardless of how you plan to do your affirmations there are some other keys that can be helpful. There is the Law of Vibration and the Law of Attraction that everyone is so familiar with these days. Basically everything has some kind of vibration to it (one one level, your voice, on another level the general idea conveyed). You then also attract into your life that which you offer vibrationally. The Buddha has been quoted as saying, “What you think – you become, what you feel – you attract, and what you imagine – you create.”
How do we use knowledge of universal laws to form good affirmations? We begin with “I AM” and then lets consider the knowledge from the preceding paragraph. What you think, you become – What do I want to become? What you feel, you attract – How do I want to feel or what kind of vibe do I want to attract into my life? A few ideas will be given as a good starting point for you to start creating your very own.
I AM feeling peaceful and prosperous.
I AM feeling the subtle vibration of increased intelligence.
I AM feeling healthy and renewed.
I AM becoming more aware of the subtle universal laws in action in and around me.
I feel loved.
I feel appreciated.
These are just a few ideas to get started practicing and obviously there are many other universal laws that can be the basis of good affirmations. Just remember to set goals towards what kind of person you want to be and steadily work towards that vision and why not use the helpful tool of affirmations along the way.
Peace to you.
